Every now and then, I meet someone who leaves a real impact on my view of what it means to be a creative and an artist. These interactions almost always bring about a rebirth of sorts in how I approach my work, what I aspire to in the distant future, and what I am doing currently to make it all a reality. Recently, meeting Sarah Yuster (in November, 2017) evoked those very same sentiments in me.
In November 2017, while Sarah prepped for a book release and an upcoming show, she was kind enough to have me visit her studio and view her work up close while chatting about her life, craft, and process.
In a month (March 24th), Sarah will be exhibiting a remarkable career retrospective "Native Soil: Incidence & Homescapes" spanning the mid-1980's through 2017 at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in Staten Island, New York. I have to say I'm excited to see what thirty years of dedication to a craft can produce.
